what is the difference between a laptop and a notebook PC?

There used to be a difference, but in that is none now because manufacturer do not recommend putting notebooks on your knees.
Laptops used to be slightly smaller than notebooks and lighter, but that naming procdure have changed.
Now it goes as follows: Ultra portable, medium center, and the largest would be desktop replacements.
No difference - both are simply a marketing term.

None. Notebook freshly sounds more contemporary and fresher. Labtop has be played out and may make population think of labtops 8 years ago. Bulky and unsightly.
The terms hold become interchangeable. Once upon a time one was supposed to be lighter and more convenient than the other.
