ive have a mac ibook for past 2 yrs and love it. if i have it to do over tho i would have gone next to the mac powerbook. its just one nick above ibook and probably worth the extra $$. but ibook does everything i need too
DELL XPS (any model will do), Alienware, Acer Farrari
i own a DELL INSPIRON and it works pretty well but sometimess when i'm on it along time i get over heated
Check into a refurbished iBook. Quite capable (especially if you bump the memory to its maximum - slightly simple to do), you get a Mac, *excellent* freestyle life (I've added a Newer Technology high-capacity mobile and routinely get 5+ hours on it), and better-than-usual WiFi reception.
Current prices on refurbished 1.33GHz machines (the fastest iBooks made - they've be back to the factory, enjoy been checked over, repairs made, and are beneath the same warranty as a unmarked machine) are running under $700, as defiant about double that for a refurbished MacBook! You can even find some new (never-sold, never-used) ones at MacMall for around $900. LowEndMac tracks prices at a quantity of reputable sites - see the link below.
I'm especially happy next to my iBook; it's a great just enough tool. Works great with the iPod, the EyeTV, and so on.
