My Gateway 7320GZ Laptop have 512MB of RAM on board. I would close to to upgrade it by adding 1GB more for a total of approx. 1.5GB of RAM. The issue is that the specs on gateway.com come across to indicate that the max allowable memory is 1024MB.... My question is what will come about if I just turn ahead and install the 1GB anyway? Will it just not supply me all the speed I want, or will it crash the system? Should I in recent times add 512MB?
Answer:
The laptop would solitary read and use 1 GB of the 1.5 GB installed. You would be wasting your money purchasing the 1 GB of RAM. You would be better off purchasing 512 MB RAM and keeping the money you recover for something else.
If you add more memory than the system be designed to accomodate, your machine freshly won't boot up. It's that simple.
If it doesn't just crash, which it should, you'll operate at the speed of the slowest chip.
It will individual report the maximum amount at best, but then again your system may not even Power On Self Test, or POST. Just carry the remaning 512 to max it out and call it a daylight.
It probably won't boot. Pull out the 512 and just walk with the Gig. Even if it does boot, it will simply address the first GB anyway.
